SPAR Austria is a 100 percent private Austrian family business. The shares still largely hold those families who have contributed their businesses to the company when the SPAR AG was founded.
Since its foundation, SPAR Austria has grown from year to year. In the meantime, the SPAR Austria Group is active in 7 countries and in 3 business areas – food trade, sports retail and in the shopping center sector.
Gross sales of the entire Group grew by a total of +7.3 % to 18.63 billion euros in 2022. SPAR was particularly successful in Austria. With an increase in sales of +4.7 % in Austria, SPAR was able to consolidate its market leadership in the food trade with a market share of 36.3% at a high level. The SPAR sales turnover in Austria climbed over 9 billion euros for the first time. The SPAR Austria Group employs over 91,300 people: around 50,000 of them work in Austria. A total of 1,400 new jobs were created through the expansion.
SPAR is also constantly setting new standards in many other areas – for example in shop architecture, as well as in product range design, in logistics and marketing.
